    Jury B.S & other b.s

Bf's a bit ticked off right now, and it's understandable.
He got jury duty. He's the second person who's been picked out of the 4 jurors needed within the last two days! They still need two. And think it might take until Thursday to find them. So far they've already gone through about 30 people. Some he said got off and sent home for ridiculous reasons. He was asked if he watches any CSI's, which bf replied yes. Then asked him if he knew that it's all fiction? He said he Really wanted to be a smartass, at that point!
They've been spending most of the time sitting in a room waiting both today and yesterday. Today he couldn't bring his book to read, they have to read mags already in there, which he said he saw a Horse Illustrated.
No cell phones allowed while waiting. No drinks or food. He said Warm water in little baby sized cups were brought in. They do get a 2 hour lunch break that they can leave. And give smoking breaks to those who smoke. Which he does not. He said it seems they get treated worse than a prisoner.
Today he made $5! Tomarrow they'll get a Free lunch!
He's getting to the point of being so pissed off at this whole process of being bored for the last two days, that by the time he ends up sitting in on the case, he's going to feel like he's got ADD.

I always thought it might be fun being part of a jury, but not now! Not with knowing it could take 4 days to find 4 people to qualify, as you sit in a room waiting each day. Then not knowing how long the case is going to last on top of that.

He's also recieved a call each day from work about problems and has had to call the owners about the problems that they the owners have started. They don't have many employees to "play with" anymore.

Yeah- jury duty- fun. NOT! I think that the accused gets better treatment than jurors. I think it's a crock that no cell phones are allowed- at all- in the building here. Some of these courthouses are not in the best neighborhoods....I can't imagine walking out to my car in the winter (in the dark) after a day in court and NOT having my cell phone.

I die of boredom without a book if I have to sit somewhere for any length of time. Someone mentioned crossword puzzle book or sudoku, and that was acceptable....??

If it is taking that long to get a jury, it is going ot be a big case with interesting stuff--so that is a good payoff. it wont be a boring dumb case, or the jury would fill up in seconds.

Small price to pay for living in this country. I sure hope if he gets charged with something, his jurors are in a better mood than you guys are.

I have jury duty on Monday. I always thought it would be kind of interesting to be on a jury but doubt they will pick me.

I don't know about that :- Bf said the case he was suppose to be a juror for settled prior to a jury being completely selected. Sounds like that one, was just a case of someone sueing. But it doesn't stop the process of being selected for another case. Which is probably the reason why it's taken three days to find 4 jurors. Bf qualified for both :(

Well, when I had to testify in a murder case, and had to show up at the courthouse for three days straight, wait to be called AFTER all of the professional witnesses AND sit in a room on a common bench for HOURS at a time outside of the courtroom with the accused's FAMILY (who all KNEW whay I was there) during the trial....yeah, I tend to think that court, jury duty and the whole issue is not fun. Guess I'm one of the moody ones.... ;)

Bf is finally done. The case was a stupid neighbor against neighbor. Who was actually guilty was found not gulity for a lack of evidence.
With 4 days of being off work, he made about $50. I was wrong for what they pay per day. It's $12.50 a day and whatever cent's per mile.
Even though bf's on salery, he said for the way the owner's of the company are right now, bf doesn't think he'll get paid for the hours he wasn't there. He did go in early mornings for a couple hours, but wasn't there enough to think he'll get paid.

As an example of how the owners are right now: The big bossman mentioned to the only truck driver they have left, as he was leaving for the day and already punched out, that the truck really need washing. So the driver punches back in and washes the truck. Bossman comes up to him while the truck is getting washed and said he sees that he punched back in on the clock. And said to the driver, he's not paying him for washing the company's truck.
Trucks were always washed by employees on the clock. And why would an employee work for the company for free?
This is how anal the bosses have gotten about saving money. Screwing their employees as much as they can.

I'm pretty sure that the company that your BF works for is required by law to make up the difference in pay during jury duty.

At least he got something- I got nothing. And nothing from my employer because it was over a school break. :-

I remember my jury duty experience.

We were not to know anything about the man...
because we were only to find him 'sane' enough to go through trial.
(or however they describe that ;))

There was just 'something' about him.

after a few hours I realized that I DID know about that man and his case.
He was in court in a suit and tie.. nice hair cut and clean shaven.

Many months earlier, his picture and story was on the front page of the paper.
He was wearing bib overalls...long black hair.. bushy beard... mustache..
    and carrying a gun.

He had shot his neighbor dog on the neighbors property.

I had never been to jury duty before.. didnt know that once they choose you ..
you were basically held as hostage ;)

I couldnt call anyone to tell them .. 'they kept me'
we had no communication with the outside world.

when we were released at 5:30 there was a blizzard going on outside and I almost went in the ditch several times while going home.

Bf said yesterday as he was pulling into the parking lot at the court house, an accident was just being finished up. A women got hit by a car in the parking lot, as she was walking to the court house. I'm sure that will be an easy case to settle. I feel bad for the women though, and hope she ends up being ok.

    Boy O Boy.
YOu'd think this was a cut N dried case wouldn't you?
My mom was hit by a car in a public parking lot, in front of several witnesses while she was IN a cross walk.
The dudes insurance/lawyers are STILL dicking around with this.
    It's been over a year.
