My vet had me giving those to my dog. They helped, but she was also on a prescription as well. They tasted like normal, good yogurt. She certainly liked it.
When I was Amoxicillin, I started drinking the Danactive stuff. They taste great, but didn't do shit to help keep everything flourishing "down there". I was so uncomfortable I had to quit the antibiotic a week early :-
If you get a good organic yogurt (Brown Cow or Stonyfield Farms) it's a bit better than Activa type yogurts, because there's WAY less sugar. Activia says they have their special brand of bacteria that helps with digestion, well, it's called acidophyllis (sorry can't spell today) and bifidus, which is found in all natural yogurts.
Since I got sick over the summer I am required to have two containers every day. I like them but not enough flavors to choose from. Why do you ask?
Ditto. Except they make their "bifidus" sound more special than anything else. They add the word "regularis" to the end. : ETA: Oh, and, if you're having "going" problems, go to a health food store and get some probis-be it acidophillis or a combo of that and other bugs. You might be surprised how much it helps.
LOL why I ask is because I started them over the weekend and even the dogs are cringing! I was eating them more for the acidophillous part not the regularity thing (no probs there). HOLY methane!!! I seem to have sprung an almost constant air leak. Thank you for the reccomendations I am trying to cut sugars too.
I eat regular soy yogurt daily, and after dinner (or FOR dinner!) I eat some oatmeal (plain steel-cut) or All Bran. Does the trick!
Brilliance, if you are wanting the acidophilus, you can buy chewable tablets(mine are strawberry flavored) that you keep in the fridge that you can just chew daily if you're not in the mood for yogurt. That's what I do because there are days when yogurt is just unappealing to me.
I buy the Stoneyfield in non fat vanilla and plain and mix them together. I get less sugar but still some of the vanilla flavor. If I'm not adding fresh fruit I probrably mix it 2 parts vanilla to 1 part plain. I eat it atleast once or twice a day with Kashi Mountain Medley.
While I myself enjoy a yogurt every morning, there was info that came out about Activia using false advertising to promote their yogurt. Seems it has no extra properties in the ingredients to make it do anything more than the regular yogurt. I love the Dannon lite and fit with extra fruit, it's delicious.
Nice try but you guys really need to gross up this thread or I'm going to have to move it out of the Manure Pile
Ok day two of not eating it and the hazmat team has been called off since the methan level is back to acceptable standards. I didn't have this problem ever with 'regular' yogurt.
I don't need the hazmat team, my gut needs help and this is what my gastroenterologist recommends. I'm eatting it only for that reason. I have ulcerative colitis, right now it is chronic so I need all the help I can get. That is why I'm always here, can't get to far from the house. !@!
Sorry, OT but Barb did anyone ever recommend fresh goats milk to you? It really helps a lot with gut issues. My DH has ulcer and stomach issues, taking a presription daily for it, but when we have fresh goat milk he is completely off his medicine with no problems. Maybe something to check into. *bc_tp
That sounds like something I will check into. I'm sick and tired of this gut thing---- hit me in May and continues. HATE IT! I will check into the goats milk, Thanks for the suggestion
