Thinking about trying to head there tomorrow...but don't have tags.
Can you get them there?
You just pay a day fee, instructions are there at the little shelter thingies. They are nice parks, the river was still too high to cross so we just stayed at Deer Run which is bigger. There was still a big rig on the Oak Ridge side this morning (Monday, 10/13) when I drove past on my way to work. Smart people since the temp will still be 78 degrees!
<cough cough> I'm feel something coming on... ;D
How long ago were you there?
Crossing the water is my favorite part! I am thinking we may head there today...
How much is the day fee?
We rode almost 3 hours...with Eirene16. I'm not sure what the day fee is, I'm guessing $5.
As in: will the water have had a chance to go down?
Last time we were there (last summer):
Went there today and crossed the river but it was up to my horse's chest, and he's over 16 hands.
Nice day for a ride and I was happy to finally have a little time to pursue my favorite hobby. ;D
We ended up getting there around 2ish.
I LOVE going through the water there!
It is too much fun!
The river is definitely a blast to go through....as long as you're on a fairly tall horse since there's a drop just before going up the Deer Run bank.
It was absolutely a stellar ride yesterday. Great company and just lovely weather.
The river was so much fun to cross!
Well..................where are the pics?
We didn't bring a camera. Let me paint a picture for you though:
Burgie was on her spazzy bay mare who you know and love.
Cudabear was on her Shire-y cross american warmblood mare. She's big and gray, though almost all white except for a single band of fleabites down her barrel.
I rode my asthmatic socially anxious bay tobiano gelding.
We pulled up with horses in tow and a carrier of kittens that Cudabear has me bottlefeeding for her. The park ranger interrogated Burgie about what we were doing and why we had kittens and why we were only purchasing day passes.
We schemed about filming a horror flick that featured three innocent young ladies riding their fearless steeds through the woods on an ominous fall day when the park ranger turned werewolf turned on us. Cudabear offered to be the one that the werewolf/ranger killed. It was good. Wanna be in our movie?
Hey, me and Eirene16 plan to ride there alot more before the end of the season, so maybe we have some ideas for the movie... She has been going there for 20 years so she knows history of all the weirdos out there.
:th_dork [email protected]!
does that mean she knows the creepy young ranger/cop that interrogated me?
He was weird....I thought I heard banjos in the background...
...perhaps even the faint sound of a squealing pig...
And the plot thickens
And I thought I was the only one that heard that... I didn't want to mention it and freak you two out.
I'm sure she does know that F.P. cop.
How about the guy who somehow fell into the pit toilet hole a few years ago...with a camera? Ya, there's some weirdos there, as are everywhere - like the flasher at Catlin Park near Matthiessen a couple years ago...
