Right now I am pretty upset at my Dr.

In late 2005 I was diagnosed with diverticulosis.

    http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/diverticulosis/

The first time it flared up (when I was diagnosed with it) the pain started and I was unable to move because I was in soooooo much pain, within 3-5 hrs. I ended up in the hospital for 2-3 days on intraveinous (sp?) antibiotics.

I went home with 2 pills that are so strong that it can damage your stomach - so needless to say for 14 days I was more nauseous than I have ever been in my life.

8 months later it flared up again, but gradually and I knew what it was soooo fast that I called and got into the Dr right away - I just ended up on the 2 pills and that was it.

I changed a lot about what I drank and that seems to help tremendously.
I stopped drinking coffee, I stopped drinking any soda and I drank LOTS and LOTS of water. I however, did not change much about my eating habits.........

Well Saturday afternoon I started to feel like it was bothering me again.
Guess what I started doing again recently.........Drinking coffee in the morning (about 4-5 months ago) and started to have a soda every now and then (started that again abut 2 months ago).
Well, well, well..............guess what I started to drink less of ...........yup.......WATER.

So ya Saturday, I start getting this weird pain - but I was too busy with the new filly to completely care about it. But I did grab my trusty bottle of water but I did not give it that good of a try.

Sunday I had a fever and was in so much pain I could not do anyting for very long.............but I could tell it was not progressing so fast that I was fearful of waiting to see the Dr on Monday.

I called and left a message st the Dr's office at about 5am this morning.............did they call me back? NO!!!! Did I have to call them and inquire as to what they thought, or if they were going to perscribe me meds...........or what? YES!!! I finally called them today at 10 am to see what was up.

Well, they were busy...........and the Dr will not perscribe any meds until he see me.............WELL THEN, WHEN THE FUCK WERE YOU GOING TO TELL ME THIS?!?!? I was just a bit put off.............

Thank God, yesterday, I drank about 6-7 bottles of water, Drank hot tea and some juice and only had one meal..........the fluids help me - why I'm not sure -but drinking that much water helped. (and staying on Tylenol).

So, tomorrow, When I see my Dr at 11:30 am - I am going to feel quite comfortable inquiring why - he thought it was ok to let me go for this long without anything................he is the one who is always saying how this could rupture and could cause septics...............ya......me tomorrow? I'll be an ASS.

Because I know that will be the LAST time this fucker ever sees me again.

give him hell. I've always believe that there is special place in hell for doctors that blow off their patients pain.

hope you get to feeling better soon.

I feel and know your pain. :'( It hurts so dang bad.

I changed my eating habits before my drinking habits. No nuts, seeds or popcorn. Light on the lettuce. It's hard to digest down. No raw carrots or broccoli, pretty much only cooked veggies. I fall off the wagon more than I would like too. But I always try to follow up then with high fiber foods for a couple days. Also a fiber dietary added daily doesn't hurt either.
Eat more soft foods in your reg diet, mashed potatoes, applesauce, breads and so on.

I am a horrible water drinker, lucky if I get down a glass a day. And this is usually right before bed. I drink about 1/2 pot of coffee a day and too embarressed to say how much soda. I did really good for about a year and then I gave. I really need to get back on the wagon and cut out my soda input again, But I will NEVER give up my coffee :)

Sending you good "shitting" vibes. Get that crap out of there and clean out those pallets.

When I have a flare up I always say I am colicing :D

Yeah I don't understand how fluids can really help diverticulitis? Unless it flushes what your eating down before it gets caught? Read up on diet, you really should be limiting what you are eating, fluids alone are not the cure, this will affect you for life. My kids dad had to have 12" of his intestinscut out from it getting infected when he was around 38. And my current husband had to have 4" cut out of his intestins ...yeah it might be me, but no the one this husband "had" was Meckel's diverticulum, which he was born with and should have had problems when he was a baby. Anyhow this is not a nice surgery, learn what you can and can not eat.

Before going into the doctor, maybe try to give him/her the benefit of the doubt. I'll bet that the receptionist or nurse on duty was supposed to call you and follow-up on your message, and set up an appointment for you. It doesn't sound like it is all the doctor's fault. All of the doctor's offices that I have been in have had an office b*tch whose "job" it is to be the gatekeeper. Sounds like this is the person who dropped the ball, maybe?

Altho- doc could have prescribed something with the understanding that you got into the first available appt.

I do think the "gatekeeper" did not even give the message to the Dr. Either way - he is going to know I am not happy and I am leaving.

This is not the first time this place has made me feel like it isn't the place for me.

This guy is supposed to be this big Christian.................but, one time, when I had a bad yeast infection..........he said he wanted to test for STD........I'm like "go a head, I already paid my co-payment, It isn't out of my pocket, but it won't help you gain any knowledge". He proceeds to suggest that my husband might have been unfaithful to me.

    I was sooo apphauled.

How dare he! (if any of you have ever met my husband - you'd understand how disrespectful and totally off base that was)

I have never liked him as a person or a Dr after that.

Oh, and the test came back negative............shocker ::)

So, Ya - he is going to finally hear what I've been holding in all this time, about that!!!!!!

Horsefreak - I never thought of it getting that far. I totally understand what you are saying. This does suck being ill like this, I can't imagine it going on, and on...........The hubby and I were just talking last night, about how we need to figure this out better! You are completely right!

You are not alone in being ingnored by your Dr. Several years ago I was out in the barn for several hours, came in with my lower leg a little swollen. I couldn't figure out what it was, but it was late at night so I just went to bed. The next morning it seemed a little better, so I didn't call the Dr. The day after that it was swollen again, so I called the Dr. office right away. The Dr. had the day off so I spoke with the nurse, described all my symptoms, and she said that she would call and consult the Dr... 8 HOURS later she calls back and says that the Dr. thinks that I might have a blood clot, that it is LIFE threatening, and get to the ER. I will remind you that I did talk with his nurse....she should have called him right away or recommended me to go straight to the ER!!!

Take care of yourself...remember that we are the one who pays the Dr.'s paycheck!!! I will hope for a speedy recovery! :-*

Tbitt it's actually very common, most of us will get some eventually. It's when it becomes infected that you will have your most problems, due to those little pockets getting filled and they will become irritated and then you will be in pain. You are kinda young to have a lot of problems, so I'm guessing you have quite a bit. When you find a new doctor you need to get scoped to see what the extent is so you can make a life plan on being as pain free as possible.

Horsefreak - I have already had the "scope" I have quite a few pollips (sp?). :'(

My Dr (I actually had a "real" Dr do this) was surprised that I didn't have more issues.

I don't know if I have already said this or not - but I've decided that my body is getting old enough that I now need to start seeing more specialists - I've already found a new Gyno - and I'm going to seek out a 'real' Gastro......so ya - it is better health time for me........... :-

You for sure would not want me to talk to your doctor. I have no respect for stupid doctors who treat me or family like crap. I have yanked up a couple of them and given them a religious experience. There are too many good doctors to have to put up with a dumb one.

My Grandmother had this and my uncle and aunt have this. Definatly tell your Dr how you feel if he isn't listening then find a Dr who will.

I do have to say how proud of myself I am. I did not go all ape crap on him. I was frank and to the point, and I never got upset.

I out and out asked him if anyone spoke to him yesterday about my phone call...............he looked like a deer caught in the headlights. I explained the phone message I left, my return phone call to them because they never called me back.......he asked me a few questions about it and I honestly answered them. He then asked if i wanted to make a formal complaint - I told him I didn't need to if I was assured that he would discuss proper handling of important messages in the future. At one point I jokingly said that my colon could have ruptured in the time it took them to call me back - oh, wait......they didn't! :p

I told him that I do not like wasting peoples time and that I knew I was not bad enough to go to the ER, there are real sick people that need that service and that I wasn't one of them............I informed him that the receptionist suggested that I go there next time I need to see the DR that bad.

He was not happy. He was even more unhappy when he realized that I was never even allowed to speak to the nurse that was on duty.

I did explain to him how disappointed I was.

I then asked him for the date that I started to coming to him. I pulled out my request for record transfer, for another Dr, and finished filling it out - I handed it to the Receptionist on my way out......with my prescription!

    tbitt.

last winter when I ran into insurance problems, I had to cancel my doctor appt
    (high cholesterol)

I wrote to the doctor explaining why I had to cancel my appt (he wasnt a ppo)
and also asked him to help with the insurance fight..
(papers needed his signature and they were not getting signed)

MONTHS later.. (and a new insurance company)
I went back to see him..
my cholesterol was now sky high!!
I could tell he was pissed when he walked in.. (he thought I was ignoring his
instructions to come back regularly and get medication.)

when I told him I had written him a letter..
    he asked "what letter?"

I offered a copy of the letter...
brought it in to him at the next appt..
AND the SIGNED signature card from the post office!!

I could tell that someone was going to be in big time trouble
    when I left there ;)
