Help me figure this out please.

I have 225 pieces of wood.
Each piece is 2 feet long and 3 1/2 inches wide.

How many square feet will they cover?

::)

Convert the 2 feet to inches. So you have 24 inches mutiplied by 3.5 inches. Each piece of wood is 84 sq. inches Multiply that number by 225 you get 18900 sq. inches. Then divide by 12 because there are 12 inches in a foot and you get 1575 sq ft. Thats what I get not saying it's right :laugh:

1575 sq. ft.

Des you're off because you need to divide again by 12....it is square feet...which is feet x feet; hence you need to convert inches to feet one more time.

Another way to figure this out would be to convert the 3.5 inches to feet

3.5 inches * 1 foot/12 inches = 0.291667 feet

sq feet per piece of wood = 2 feet * 0.291667 feet = 0.58334 sq ft

225 pieces of wood * 0.58334 sq ft per each piece of wood = 131.25 sq ft

It didn't seem completely right to me but I knew I was on the right track. My final number just seemed too big ;)
