So in about 5 years I will be building my own new fancy schmancy barn and I want everyones help: Post something that would be a GOTTA HAVE if you were to build a barn from electrical outlets to stalls latches I wanna know it all. Please post pics and links as you have them. Have at it!!!!
That one will make me use my brain----- hummmm I have a long list of things that most likely never be a part of my barn. Cupolas glass set in sliding doors heated/a-c viewing room big wash rack with mats up walls too sufficient lighting Nice base stalls attached pavers in aisleway automatic water in stalls automatic misting system for arena surround sound in arena and barn fancy grated stall fronts - full door swing out grain feeders automatic fly system Believe me my wish list goes on and on!!
My only suggestion to the previous list is the full mesh metal doors, they are horribly noisy if you have horses that like to bang/kick them. I have a friend that built the barn of all barns, and she now hates them!!!!
I LOVE framed mesh doors. THey alow excellent air flow and if framed well are quite sturdy. Pin locks. MUCH safer. horse can not get them out! Full solid stall door on the wash racks with a heat lamp and corner fans, for winter bathing. Um..... I'll think of more.
Full runs outside each stall Central ventilation system for air circulation super wide aisles My dream barn is planted in my head----- I just need the land and the $$
I got the "joy" of visiting Kendall Road Equine Clinic today to pick up Boo with HorseMommy47. Aside from the fact that it is what it is and that I don't ever want to have to go back there, they do have the framed mesh type stalls with the coolest pin locks I have ever seen. I want them for my non-existent barn! Also, I would put "pillow padding" and thin mats on top of that in the stalls, thick mats (wall to wall) in the aisles, dutch doors to the runs from each stall, low to floor corner feeders, a door to get to the corner feeders....Dude Linds, you just need to come visit me at the barn. Most of what I just listed is at my barn, minus the dutch doors...
A human bathroom. One of the barns we board at does not have a bathroom. I hate to ask if I could use the bathroom in their house. If I had the money to have a custom dream barn made, I want 2 indoor arenas. 1 regular one. And 1 for trail riding, which would have a large hill with shrubs and plants, on the ground..small trees and a creek with fish.
Websites people!!!!!! I want pics. I have to explain this all to a duhm non horsey man who wants it to be a cattle barn. He is, however, easily pursuaded by pics and websites. I just suck at explaining things to him. Who would be your dream barn builder? Hay storage? size of indoor (myself, trainer and clients) WP/HUS? Viewing room amenities?
At least 2 electrical outlets per stall. Also an individual watering system because no one likes dragging and rolling up hoses! Fans mounted in upper corners of stalls. Electronically locking (keypad) tack and feed rooms. Laundry facilities. Indoor that has windows/panels/doors that will allow lots of NATURAL light.
I would have every stall partition (between stalls) mounted on a hinge and pin system so they can be swung open for stripping with a skidloader. I would also have my hay storage on ground level, no overhead storage, so all hay can be handled with a skidloader. Make your new barn as labor saving as possible !!
I love these that were mentioned: dutch doors individual paddocks off each stall heated/ac viewing room (I would add a mini bar in here) human washroom automatic water stall fans lots of windows for natural lighting wash rack with h/c water I would also have a heated tack room...I hate getting on cold saddles in the winter and I hate freezing cold bits. I think I would also have a separate shed/building outside of the barn for hay storage.
If you go the auto waterer route, get theo nes with the meter. It's very important to know how much your horse is consuming. I too have seen the Nelsons in several applications, I like them for the most part.
I want the rubber pavers for aisleways. I have no good reason for it, other than the pretty colors make me happy
